IMO, that's the only hope they have of increasing market share for w8 past niche tablet use. I could be wrong, but it appears that MSFT (and maybe HP) don't want anyone to use an alternate OS to W8. Neither was acceptable to boot/run to the laptop's configuration, although both boot and run perfectly in my ASUS laptop. Tried good boot disks for both vista and XP SP2. (No install disk was included.)Īfter some research online, and trying all the options available on boot up, I set the BIOS to allow legacy boot to the optical drive. I did not create a new partition I merely made part of the existing partition unused and available (and leaving 13Gb available space on the W8 partition.) On reboot W8 will not run claiming a missing file that must be fixed with install disk.
I used W8's tool to resize the W8 partition from 400Gb to 50Gb. I installed software to get past the tablet startup screen and to make windows explorer useful again, but W8 is still an unwieldy mess, unsuitable for accomplishing real multi-tasking productive work. Windows 8 is hideous, lacking all 3-d design clues to intuitive use. Bought one last month, tried it for 2 days, got a refund (which was easy at Officeworks.)
